Wow. now this is messed up.
Video games are illegal in Greece.

Anyone know anything about this?

This is, er, how shall we say, "fucked up". I think the key sentence in the report is, “The blanket ban was decided in February after the government admitted it was incapable of distinguishing innocuous video games from illegal gambling machines." Yes, one-armed bandits and Pac-Man: practically the same thing.

I could perhaps begin to see the government's point of view if they were banning video games on the basis of content--a la Mortal Kombat and the like--but they're not. Just banning them on the basis of ignorance. Boy, never did I think I'd see the day when playing FreeCell could be considered undermining the capitalist state. If this is some kind of bizarre "preparation" for Athens hosting the next Summer Olympics--as in, "only sports counts as real gaming"--then all I have to say is, "ha."

I will now go play Grand Theft Auto III with the zeal of a revolutionary.
