thought I had a line on a short-tailed opposum up for adoption at a nearby petstore.
called, the guy on the phone said that he had no idea what I was talking about, and that their adoption pets usually go the same day.

ah well. c'est la vie.
I'd gotten my hopes way way up.

Get a ferret!! They're cute, fuzzy, and TOTALLY neurotic!

I have two... a little tiny weasely runt named Doc (after Doc Holiday, cause he's small, sickly, and lives in ARizona... HA!), and a big bearish playful brute named Loki. Funny thing is Loki's the bitch, as Doc ism again like is namesake, much more intelligent.

And if you bathe them (they don't mind being taken into the shower with you! And they can swim!) they really don't smell.

you don't understand how much I want a ferret. always have.
can't have free roaming critters in our current apartment though, and we're here for another year.

that's depressing, but i'm thrilled the little guy got a home. i nearly took him/her home last weekend and just couldn't justify getting another pet. cool to know what he/she was too. we guessed doormouse for lack of any better clues but were totally stumped on what it was/how to feed it. the store didn't know either.

it's agravating, because whoever got it probably doesn't know how to feed it either.
they're insectivores, wont' do well on mouse food.

i'd like to say that if they got it the day after i was in, his/her odds would be better. the guy working when we were in couldn't tell us what it was but said the small animal expert would be in the following day. i hope the small animal expert was in when the potential shortie possum was adopted and gave some good advice.
