So iphones are in hand and working well on TMobile. We'll see how battery life is, they're used after all.
In honor of having such a versatile little device, I've setup a Moblog on flickr where I'll post random cameraphone pictures. Friend me! I'm lonely! ;-)

Hoping to spur myself into shooting more, as I'm a lazy bastard when it comes to getting out my big camera even though I carry it pretty much every day.

I need to learn to use a camera properly. Or I kind of did at one point, but never practiced, and I've pretty much forgotten everything.

Hmmm, maybe I'll go to Forest Hills this weekend for a photowalk depending on the weather.

I constantly take pictures with my phone because it keeps me in the mode of seeing things that need to be photographed, so that when I carry my big camera around the transition is pretty seamless.

Ha! Yay. I'm always a little surprised that anyone looks at that blog but me, but it sure is a blast. I hope you have half as much fun at it as I do.

An iphone is not what you want for a cameraphone. Iphones rock, don't get me wrong. I loved my 3g and my 3gs is ten times better (much much much faster and more importantly, it has a lot more memory so I can now run Pandora in the background while I'm doing other things... it's jailbroken and I use backgrounder to background apps)

Anyway, I had a Blackberry Curve and the camera on that was a lot better than the one on the 3g. I haven't really played with the camera on the 3gs yet but I heard that OS 3 improved things on the 3g so maybe they've fixed some of the issues. Either way, lack of a flash can be problematic. For me in bright sunlight the 3g camera worked decent. In any other situation it was a subpar experience.

I'm actually going from a curve to an iphone 2g. ;-)

The curve camera was better than I expected, but certainly no great shakes in the image quality department. Been wanting an iphone for many reasons, but the camera was not one. The ease of mobloging to flickr however, was one of the reasons. I don't much care about the image quality for this project, it's just to get me looking at things that way again.

The 3gs finally has actual lens focusing built-in which is a huge step forward. The images off it are really quite good from what I've see.
That said, if I were going for a really great imaging cell phone I'd be looking at one of the ones that's more a camera with a cell phone attached, like the Nokia N82 or N95. ^_^

i'm curious about whether you had to add some sort of data/email/internet plan to your TMobile account to be able to use apps like this moblog. i've been considering a smart phone (i'm on verizon), but last night when I did the math on the phone plus the increase in my monthly bill, with what it would cost over a year, i could buy a laptop - which i might want more.

Yup, you do need some data plan. The $25/mo unlimited plan is cheaper than my old blackberry enterprise plan, so I'm actually saving money. hah!

Apparently there's a bit of a hack on tmobile where you can sign up for "T-Zones" at $5.99/mo and run some proxy on your phone where you get full internet at only a slightly slower speed than a full data plan. If you want a smart phone on the cheap, it's probably the best (only?) way to go.
