I don't run.
I can't run.
I'll play ultimate frisbee for 2-3 hours straight, running most of the time, but going for a jog? Can't do it. Never could. Bores the hell out of me and hurts in strange ways that playing frisbee doesn't.

3 years ago I bought a pair of nice running shoes, and swore that I wouldn't put them on except to go running. They've sat unworn in the back of our closet since then.

This morning, I went for a run.
I wore those shoes.

Today a hard-fought 2/3 of a mile. Tomorrow... likely the same. But someday!

Running is hard! I've been working on it since January. I don't run particularly fast, but I've been able to work up from running five minutes straight to 11.5 minutes.

I'm kind of the same. If I go on a treadmill, in a few weeks, I can work up to running 30 minutes straight, and run about 3 miles. Not massively fast by any means, but at a run/jog the whole time. If I try and run outside, I'm done in about a block.

yep, I have the same problem. I can play disc forever, I can run on a treadmill (but I'd rather do other cardio stuff) but I just flat-out refuse to run outside. Personally I think running on pavement sucks, and my shins seem to agree.

But, good on ya dude! Keep it up!

What he said. Personally, i don't run unless something is chasing me, and even then it's a tough call whether I'd rather spend the energy fighting it than running.

Is it a case of ultimate=grass (or mud) and running=pavement?

I have rarely ever tried running (I'm too heavy for it to not wreck my knees) but one of the reasons I find biking not boring is the mental challenge. Maybe you could try running in traffic? ;-) ;-)

Woo hoo! Good for you!

I'm trying to overcome the I Hate Real Exercise demons myself right now, so I can say from a very personal perspective that this is awesome and you rock!

That's awesome man!

Running hurts my shins really bad. I'm opting for bicycling instead. Maybe when I've dropped some pounds I'll give jogging a try.

You might find that a change of shoes helps with pain....

To mix things up: Vary speed during the run and between runs. One day try for a long, slow run. Another day mix going faster and going slower (and walking).

I find that on a good day, it sucks for about fifteen minutes, and then I get into kind of a trance and go for quite a while after that.

Don't do it *despite* the fact that it's painful and boring. Do it BECAUSE it's painful and boring!

Yay! Congrats! Out of curiosity, what prompted this?

(and man, I think I need a running icon.)
