Well,
I got myself a new CPU. yay!
AMD T-bird 1ghz. *grin*
New ASUS MB and a shiny new case.
Only I can't get win2k to install on it. Keeps giving me "Physical Memory Dump" about halfway into the install process.
After browsing the web I got some ideas that I'm trying, but if it doesn't work this time it's getting win98.
Unfortunately I have to get up early and go to work tomorrow, so it'll all have to wait.
*sigh*
new toy! can't play! WAHHHHH!!!
But assuming that all goes ok, I'll have a nice speedy new computer by the end of the week.
Until then, it's nice I'm at home so I have htis computer. (parent's one.)
Anyway, off to set up one more trial instalation of 2k, then off to bed.
Had a wonderful weekend with the girl, yay! *hugs her*
Mowed the lawn for the first time since high school, been holding down the fort around here.

i built an amd athlon w/ 800mhz a few months ago. its so nice. :) i hope you enjoy yours!

well it's lovely except that I can't get win2k to install, which is driving me nuts!
I think maybe I need the service pack 2 release, but I hate paying M$. *sigh*

any idea why its giving you a memory dump? at what point in the install process does it dump? and how are you doing the install? booting from cd or floppies then cd?

Booting from CD.
It copies all the files to disk, reboots, and starts the actuall setup process. Tries to detect "keyboard, mouse, and other such devices." halfway into that, boom.
I think it may be the video card, amd has a patch on their site for agp cards under win2k, but you ahve to have the damn thing installed before you can patch it. *sigh*
Would explain why it worked with my old p2 though and not the AMD.
