So we had a SICK huge thunderstorm last night.
It fried our cable modem.
DOH!
Got to work, discovered that it must have hit one of Comcast's trunks, as at least one other person in Cambridge had a piece of cable equipment fried (her set-top box).

Ah well, get to replace my cable modem.
That means I get to go to microcenter!
mmm... microcenter...
*drool*

I hope they've come down since we got ours.

...I would imagine so, since that was 6 years ago.

Wow, I think the cable modem is our oldest still-in-use piece of computer equipment.

I never was good at math, 40 is less than 300, yes?

Well, it's good to know that the price has reasonablized in the past few years.

I swear that should be a word.

Man, and I thought I was possibly being a little over-zealous when I finally decided to actually run around and unplug things from the wall. Clearly it was the right move. Although now that i think about it, I never unplugged the coax on anything, so I guess my modem still could've gotten fried.

But that's part of why I've resigned myself to always renting my modem from the cable company-- I've fried so many of them it's not funny. And when you rent them from Comcast, they usually replace them for free. Though I suppose if they're only $40 these days, it might not be worth worrying about.

mmmmm.... Microcenter. ::drools::

Yeah, I woke Ry up and made him help me do that. He was reaching for the modem as it popped... at least *most* of the expensive stuff seems to be OK...
