Wow! With just $155k, you can buy a 263 sq. foot studio in our neck of the woods!
Let me spell that out: two hundred and sixty three square feet.

Still not computing on a visceral level?
That's the size of a room 20' by 13'. $155k.
ouch.
You could fit that "apartment" inside the kitchen at my parents' house.

(Also found an interesting looking property on craigslist, I doubt anything will come of it but you never know.)

(oh, and i plan to post photos today.)

We're thinking about buying too!

It's sad how little you can get though for so much money.

I'm actually thinking of purchasing some acerage upstate. mnnn...land.

Drat, beat me to it!

heh, well it is a studio ;-)

Here you can start looking at 1BR for about 350K. Fun isnt it?

Define burst.

I think it might develop a slow leak. It's kind of like gas prices. Even when they deflate, it will still be more than it ever was before.

Unfortunately while the current economic models shows a slowdown, particularly in real estate, areas like Boston and SF where housing is limited by space and zoning regs, they seems to be expecting more of a plateau then an actual decrease. :(

I feel your pain though. I LIVED in one of those 13x20 rooms in SF. And I couldn't afford to buy it, because there they start at closer to a quarter mil. :P

Your parents' kitchen is pretty big.

Mine is about that size, but it's a kitchen/dining room.

O_o

That's roughly the size of the bedroom I had when I was a kid...wow.

Dude, studios downtown in SF cost 300K now. :) It's sick and twisted that my first impulse was "Man, 155K? That's plausibly affordable!"

The answer is clearly to freelance, telecommute, or invent the Star Trek Transporter Room.

I'm glad you're posting pictures, because I had just made a mental note to poke you about that.

sure you can buy a studio at that price, but can you sell one?

Our new neighbors across the dirt road sold their 2 bedroom house up in Olympia for something like $190K. And that's crazy expensive.

I think my parents paid, 10+ years ago mind you, probably about $100k for our house (3 bedrooms, split level on two-ish acres) and about $60k for our 5-acre wood lot five years ago.

Heh. Come out to the country!

I'm not sure exactly where that one's located, but I think I'd take it. ;-)

My requirements when I get a house will be simple:

A garage, a location close enough to work to ride (and on good roads for riding), and a basement. Basements are good to have here on the edge of tornado alley.

There are a LOT of 3BR/2 bath houses with garages here for $150k (+/- 25k)
