Wow. That's pretty unequivocal. ;) And you were WAY not wrong about Dune (Meg will totally never let me forget that), so I'll pick it up next time I'm at the bookstore. You know, after I finish Mieville and Stephenson and Joyce and Pound and all the other stuff on my shelf.

Hey! I read Enders Game when I was in grad school and I loved it. I read Speaker for the Dead immediately after which I found interesting, but less compelling.

Oh also, really don't read "The Da Vinci Code". Really.

Read "The Eight" by Katherine Neville instead.

i fully expect it to suck, I've just never read one of those mainstream best-seller type things. John Grisham, etc. Figured I'd give it a shot with the "best one" from recent years.

Well, it was given to me if you'd like to borrow it.

We have a copy, Meg read it and proclaimed it (let me see if I can get this just right...) "good beach-reading dreck."

I'm with Meg. It wasn't great, but it kept me interested. Of course, I know nothing about art history, so I had no desire to throw it across the room :)

It's one of the few books I've ever genuinely wanted to throw across a room.

Granted, I also read "Angels & Demons" and was less bothered because while the plot is equally unlikely I know nothing about nuclear physics, but I know quite a lot about medieval religion and hence the violent designs on "The Da Vinci Code".

Maybe I should read that one then, for the true experience of book-hurling as I know more about nuclear physics than I do about medieval religion. ^_^

I have an impossible love/hate relationship with Card. I love the Ender's Game stuff, and have read gobs of his other stuff waiting to like it, I rarely do -- moralistic trite fantasy that it is.

Similar to mine with Harlan Ellison. I hate the bastard, but he writes some really awesome stuff.
