You know, the thing that weirded me out, all throughout TransMet was how naively optimistic it was. The entire plot, conflict, escalation, and resolution all revolved around the point that if the truth got to the press---the moment the truth got out, even---people would change their minds and act and vote differently.

The whole time I was reading it, I kept thinking it was a sort of futuristic setting for a quaint 19th century story. :-/
