Let me spell that out: two hundred and sixty three square feet.

That's the size of a room 20' by 13'. $155k.
ouch.
You could fit that "apartment" inside the kitchen at my parents' house.

(Also found an interesting looking property on craigslist, I doubt anything will come of it but you never know.)

Dude, studios downtown in SF cost 300K now. :) It's sick and twisted that my first impulse was "Man, 155K? That's plausibly affordable!"

The answer is clearly to freelance, telecommute, or invent the Star Trek Transporter Room.

Our new neighbors across the dirt road sold their 2 bedroom house up in Olympia for something like $190K. And that's crazy expensive.

I think my parents paid, 10+ years ago mind you, probably about $100k for our house (3 bedrooms, split level on two-ish acres) and about $60k for our 5-acre wood lot five years ago.

I'm not sure exactly where that one's located, but I think I'd take it. ;-)

My requirements when I get a house will be simple:

A garage, a location close enough to work to ride (and on good roads for riding), and a basement. Basements are good to have here on the edge of tornado alley.

There are a LOT of 3BR/2 bath houses with garages here for $150k (+/- 25k)
